Faceless

“Faceless Portraits”. The photographic portrait by definition shows the face. Happy, sad, joyous, distraught. It’s all there in the face. The eyes “are the window to the soul”, goes the saying. But in this series the face is almost completely obscured. So, what’s going on here? What are people hiding? The answer is nothing – or not as much as we may think. What they are doing is showing something about who they are – at least maybe at that moment. The idea was hatched on a recent trip made to Cuba, a place that still lies under a metaphysical curtain. Countries where many people lead a kind of double life, out of necessity. Where nothing is really as it seems. Where secrecy is still commonplace and sometimes vital. In these photographs, complete strangers were allowed to reveal something about them selves and still retain their privacy.
