Stories | The changing image of Cuba

I’ve travelled through Cuba at least 8 times since 1999, documenting the huge transition this country is going through. Due to recent foreign investment along with the shifting of US policy in dramatic ways since its crippling embargo, Cuba is opening up in ways that were unimaginable just a few years ago. The once empty shops are now filling with goods, there is a palpable excitement in the air. Less restrictions are allowing for a freer atmosphere. You can see it in the streets, feel it in the conversations with people in the cities and in the countryside, the new Cuba is arriving. The walls are coming down, an era is passing and this once closed and hidden gem of a culture and people is coming into its own in the new millennium.
