Guatemala- At Finca Filadelfia, just outside the center of Antigua, workers pick coffee for it to then be dried and processed. Due to the increase of East Asia’s production in coffee, many Central American countries have had to face a decrease in sales prices. Finca Filadelfia produces only high-end quality coffee in order to survive the competitive international market.The farm also serves as a gathering center for individuals interested in learning about the production of coffee. Once the coffee has been picked it is washed in the wet mill, undergoing a fermentation process that takes the outer shell off. It is then dried out on large tiled floors and eventually roasted. These young men dry the coffee by laying a thin layer over tiled floors and moving it around in different patterns throughout the course of the day. Once it is completely dry it can be roasted and packed for exportation.
