colibrí textiles in antigua…

After spending a couple of days with some friends working on a project they are starting importing fair trade coffee, I found myself back in Antigua. Before meeting my Dad for lunch though, I decided to stop by in one of my favorite shops, el Colibrí, which is on the way out of town. I know the owner Vey, she also works with small cooperatives of women in the area of Solola in the highlands of Guatemala. Anyways, the ladies had just come in from the highlands bringing all their woven textiles…and we just had to take some photos of those ladies behind all the beautiful hard work. The New York Times had an article in today’s paper too….yaay! It makes me so happy to know there are several people out there that make it a priority to want to work with small communities around the country that promote their craftsmanship.
